Tories vow to slash advertising spend

The Conservatives would slash spending on Government advertising straight away if they won this year’s General Election, shadow chancellor George Osborne says.

Speaking at the London School of Economics last night, Osborne said, ‘Programmes that represent poor value for money – excessive spending on things like advertising and consultants, spending on tax credits for people earning more than £50 000, and spending on child trust funds for better-off families – will all have to be cut during the financial year.’

Earlier this week Greg Hands, Conservative MP for Hammersmith and Fulham and Shadow Treasury Minister, caused controversy by suggesting that some Government design work should be done in-house and not outsourced to consultancies.

Last year Prime Minister Gordon Brown announced that the Government’s marketing spend would be cut by a quarter as part of a cost-saving drive.

‘Poor value for money’? If I were french I would probably go and et fire to some cars outside the houses of Parliament. As it is i will just moan about this online.

Does he also plan to impose cuts on bonuses that are being planned for RBS bankers – the bank that we, the tax payers, own 84% of? Or perhaps a cut in MP’s expenses for showing over and over again what poor value for money they are?

Conservatives, you didn’t have my vote before and you certainly don’t now!
