UAE designer wins British Council entrepreneur prize

At a ceremony last night at 100% Design, the British Council awarded Rami Farook a £5000 prize, which he will spend on a collaborative design project with the British Council.

Farook founded what he claims is the UAE’s first design consultancy, Traffic, as well as a boutique design group called Camouflage. In 2008 he co-founded the Dubai arm of design showcase event Pecha Kucha.

Earlier this week the British Council shortlisted five finalists for the international award’s sister competition, UK Young Design Entrepreneur 2009.

Max Fraser, publishing director of Spotlight Press, Bouf founder Alex Griffin, Nick Rawcliffe of Raw Studio, Andrew Tanner of Andrew Tanner Design and Deadgood director Dan Ziglam will take part in a tour of Turkey’s design industry in November.

The winner of the UK award will be announced at the end of February 2010.
