UCA announces eco event line-up
The University for the Creative Arts has announced that its annual Sustainable Innovation conference will focus on ‘the links between eco-innovation and entrepreneurship’ this year.
The conference, now in its 15th year, is organised by UCA’s Centre for Sustainable Design, and will bring together researchers, academics, designers, entrepreneurs and policy-makers to discuss the design, development and commercialisation of sustainable products.
Martin Charter, director of CfSD, says, ‘There is a growing worldwide discussion over what Green or sustainable products actually are.’
He adds, ‘We’re looking at design as part of the innovation process. If we develop more eco-innovative products, that potentially will create new business and new jobs as well.
‘It’s important for designers to understand what’s going on within the big companies.’
Speakers will include: Maarten Ten Houten, sustainability director of Philips Lighting, Netherlands; Wiert-Jan de Raaf, director of the Rotterdam Climate Change Initiative; Dae Young Park, secretary-general of Korea Environmental Council in Europe; and Martin Chilcott, chairman of sustainable consultancy Meltwater Ventures.
Sustainable Innovation will be held in Rotterdam on 8 and 9 November.
