Urban Salon to create war at sea exhibition

The Imperial War Museum North has appointed Urban Salon to design its summer 2010 exhibition.

Urban Salon won the job last week, following a creative pitch against about three other groups. This will be the first time the consultancy has worked with the museum.

All Aboard: Stories of War at Sea is a 510m2 family exhibition about life in the Royal Navy from World War I to the present day.

‘The show will be very graphics heavy, with a lot of film footage of daily life in the navy,’ says Urban Salon director Alex Mowat. ‘There will be lots of digital and manual family interactives in the show that allow more than one person to play on them.’

The interactives will focus on unusual aspects of navy life, including the fact that some navy animals, including dogs and cats, have won medals for bravery.

Urban Salon will meet with the museum next week, before agreeing concepts on 19 April and completing design work in mid-May.

All Aboard opens in July and runs until April 2011.
