V&A brings in contemporary furniture using new fund
The Victoria & Albert Museum is to display pieces by Fredrikson Stallard, Nendo and other designers that have been acquired through its new Outset Contemporary Art Fund.
A panel of design experts, led by Christopher Wilk, V&A keeper of furniture, fashion and textiles, selected the pieces, which also include works by BCXSY, Platform and Satyendra Pakhalé.
The initial collection features eight works, including Fredrikson Stallard’s Table #1 (Log) (First Prototype) and the Cabbage Chair by Nendo.
The fund was launched in March and aims to raise £100 000 annually to collect the best furniture pieces of the year. It will be supported by Outset’s patrons.
Mark Jones, director of the V&A, says, ‘We are very grateful to Outset for supporting the V&A and enabling us to acquire such wonderful contemporary design pieces for the collections.’
The furniture will be displayed in the V&A during the London Design Festival from 17-25 September and will then form part of various V&A exhibitions and galleries.
