V&A furniture gallery to feature digital labelling
The Victoria & Albert Museum is set to open a new furniture gallery in December, with interior and exhibition design by Nord Architecture and interactive design by Allofus and the V&A’s in-house team.
The gallery will feature interactive display tables as well as touch-screen digital labelling for objects on display.
The new gallery, which is part of the museum’s Futureplan initiative to introduce new exhibition spaces, will provide a permanent home for the museum’s furniture collection.
The furniture gallery will feature a large display of around 25 key pieces, as well as two large interactive tables, with interface design by Allofus, which will also display the collection.
The V&A says it is using digital labelling at the gallery for the first time. These labels will feature a touch-screen interface, designed by the V&A’s in-house team, to provide additional content for each object.
Furniture on display will include works by Thomas Chippendale, Charles and Ray Eames and Ron Arad, and there will also be a newly commissioned seating installation by Gitta Gschwendtner.
The new Furniture Gallery is set to open on 1 December.
