V&A unveils shortlisted designs for Dundee outpost
The Victoria & Albert Museum has unveiled six shortlisted designs for its new outpost in Dundee, following an international architectural competition.
Designs from Sutherland Hussey Architects, Steven Holl Architects, Snøhetta, Rex, Kengo Kuma & Associates and Delugan Meissl Associated Architects have been shortlisted for the waterfront site, which is hoped will become Scotland’s leading centre for design.
The £47m project is being delivered by a partnership between the V&A, the University of Dundee, the University of Abertay Dundee, Dundee City Council and Scottish Enterprise, and is planned to open in 2014.
Designers were invited to submit proposals for a building that would stimulate commerce as well as inspire local and international visitor interest.
The six shortlisted proposals were selected by a jury panel including University of Dundee’s school of architecture dean Graeme Hutton, V&A director of projects and design Moira Gemmill and Scottish Enterprise regional operations director Jill Farrell.
The winner of the two-stage competition will be announced by the jury at the beginning of November.
