Translucency in clay
Contemporary Applied Arts is exhibiting work by talented ceramicists Margaret O’Rourke and Andrea Walsh as part of exhibition Translucency in Clay at Circus in London’s Marylebone.
Both O’Rorke and Walsh, who work with porcelain and bone china respectively, use translucency and reflective finishes to play with how light and their pieces interact.
At the exhibition, Walsh will be exhibiting new work specific to the Artist into Industry Residency, which was part of the British Ceramics Biennial. The residency was hosted by Minton and Staffordshire Universiry, during which Walsh explored historical techniques, such as the acid gold etching process. Many of the pieces have been etched to the point where there are paper-thin and form purely sculptural, almost transparent objects.
Having worked extensively at ceramics institute Sanbao in Jingdezhen, China, O’Rouke has also developed cast porcelain forms for lighting for director Jackson Li.
The exhibition runs at Circus, 58 Marylebone High Street, London W1U until 20 January.
Ceramics meets light in the Porcelain Sculptures by Margaret O’Rorke. The potter, praised by American Craft, with her works reminds us that even one of the oldest materials is object of continuous research and improvement by the artists.
