The website launches on 1 June, the same day that final results from Thompson’s strategy review are to be set in motion, following a public consultation held by the BBC Trust.
The BBC says under the strategy proposals the station will be broken up into regional stations. A spokeswoman for BBC Asian Network says the work was commissioned with a national station in mind, despite the uncertain future of the station. ‘For us it’s business as usual,’ she says.
Airside, which is on the BBC’s preferred suppliers list, won a three-way pitch in October 2009 to design a website with 40 pages, each with an adapted look and feel to reflect individual presenters and their listenership.
Lead designer at the consultancy Malika Favre says the website reflects ‘the contemporary Asian community’ and the station’s ‘diverse group of listeners’.
Airside says that a ‘unified look’ has been achieved ‘which will vary throughout the day and night’.
