Austin installs invitations by Mytton Williams

Bath group Mytton Williams has designed invitations for artist Lucy Austin’s installations Cumulus and Mare’s Tales, on show in Gloucester next month.

The invitation features photography by Peter Greenwood and covers both installations. According to Mytton Williams graphic designer Matt Judge, it was important that the work delineated, yet connected the two installations, which are being shown at different venues but are linked together.

The work for Cumulus, which is on show at Gloucester Cathedral, is ‘pure, very white, and takes almost a religious approach’, explains Judge.

Mare’s Tales, appearing on the reverse of the invitation, ‘takes the opposite stance’, he says, and is ‘quite dark and hellish’.

This ties in with Austin’s explanation of her work.

‘Cumulus is made from white paper straws, while Mare’s Tales uses plastic cable ties to evoke much darker resonances with its primordial forms,’ she says.
