Interaction takes off at Barrow museum

Attractability is designing an interactive exhibit for Barrow-in-Furness’s Dock Museum. The 200 000 contract was awarded to the Leeds consultancy by Barrow Borough Council.

The new exhibit will join the existing exhibition, designed for the museum’s opening in May 1994 by Robin Wade & Partners, and will illustrate the economic, social and political history of the Barrow community.

Due to open next March, the new attraction will include “multi- sensory” presentations on Barrow, says a consultancy spokeswoman, including the town’s long association with ship and sub-marine building.

Effects will include video, sound and blasts of hot and cold air to recreate working conditions.

The museum is hoping the new exhibit will double the 50 000 current annual number of visitors.
