MCA seeks to expand with designers

MCA Group, which continues its expansion programme with the acquisition of advertising agency Mosseri Associates, is now looking to buy one or more design consultancies.

The Surrey business, which aims to become a fully integrated marketing services group, is on the lookout for “good quality design resources”, explains MCA managing director Craig McCulloch.

At the moment MCA is “at least 50 per cent based in design”, McCulloch adds. Its UK design interests are Fly Design and Website group Soft Options. “We are always going to be a design-based business because we are built as creative thinkers. We know we can’t be all things to all people so we buy in specialists,” he says.

As well as strengthening its UK presence, MCA has a full-time consultant in the US searching for opportunities on the East Coast. “We are looking for a company with a similar [integrated] mix,” says group chief executive Ian McAllister. “There is a need in the US for this type of company.”

MCA Group was launched by McAllister on an 80 000 overdraft in 1990 and now has a turnover of around 10m.
