Barbican design jobs up for grabs

Design work is up for grabs at the Barbican Centre in London following the Corporation of London’s award of £12.25m to fund improvements to foyers and other public spaces at the arts complex.

A Barbican Centre spokeswoman confirmed tender documents are now being prepared for design requirements including signage, lighting, retail and interiors.

Designers are expected to be in place by September or October.

She adds the masterplan, devised by Alford Hall Monaghan Morris, was primarily concerned with securing project funds.

‘Although the funding is contingent on certain aspects [of the masterplan] being followed through, [in design terms] we’re effectively starting from scratch’, she says.
