New identity for the Crafts Council

The Crafts Council is planning to launch a revitalised visual identity and has appointed Intro in a six-way pitch to assess its current branding.

As part of a wide-reaching assessment of the organisation, Crafts Council director Rosy Greenlees will unveil the identity alongside a redrafted ‘mission statement’ setting out the council’s role and objectives.

Although Greenlees declines to reveal the consultancies on the pitch list, it is thought that Pentagram, which designed the existing marque, was among those in the running.

According to Intro design director Adrian Talbot, the project could involve the design of a whole new identity, or perhaps a modification of the existing logo. It is thought that Greenlees is keen for a more radical step-change, but agreement of Crafts Council stakeholders would be needed to pursue this.
