Former WH Smith design head clarifies position

In response to your news on the new appointment to head of design at WH Smith (DW 22 August) perhaps I may shed some light on my own departure from that role.

I resigned from the post of head of design at WH Smith in February as I was increasingly missing opportunities for hands-on involvement in the creative side of projects.

My decision to leave was based solely on my desire to be heading up my own consultancy again.

Following my resignation, I continued to work with WH Smith until June, overseeing the Brand Design team output. In my new capacity, heading up Liz Lyons Design, I am involved in a number of projects with the WH Smith creative team and look forward to a continuing relationship with the company.
