The design industry’s loss could be the fashion industry’s gain. Sarah Thomas, a 16-year- old A-level student of, among other things, design technology, has apparently quit her studies for life as a supermodel. She had been supplementing her pocket money with work for Marie Claire before making the leap to full-time modelling. ‘How could she abandon us?’ designers are crying. Quite. What could 6 500-a-day photo assignments possibly offer that couldn’t be matched by design studios in cheaper parts of north London?
