Asda strengthens design team

Asda has strengthened the design team at its £600m George at Asda clothing business with two high-profile appointments.

Former Marks & Spencer design director Brian Godbold has joined the George at Asda design team on a part-time, informal basis. Next product director Kate Bostock has been appointed design director and will join in early July.

Godbold’s role is as “a friend and advisor”, according to an Asda spokeswoman. “We hope to draw on his expertise in the fashion and design industries. It will be a loose, flexible relationship.”

Initially, he will be looking at fashion trends, Asda’s supplier strategy and the display of George clothing in-store. He will be working closely with George at Asda managing director Andy Bond.

Bostock will lead a team of 35 designers and quality managers and will report to Bond. She will be responsible for the overall look and feel of the George at Asda brand.
