Spitalfields retail buys in identity

Bostock and Pollitt has designed an identity and marketing material for the Spitalfields retail development in London.

The work, which includes a brochure, hoardings and strapline – My/Your/Our Spitalfields – launches this week.

Rather than develop a new moniker for the locale, the group’s work uses the existing name and aims to play on the region’s strengths, says Bostock and Pollitt chief executive David Chapple. ‘The area has lots of emotion, a strong local presence and individual retailers and we’re trying to keep true to the character of the area,’ he explains.

The identity is influenced by the Huguenot silk weaving community – which was originally based in the area – and the contemporary craft and fashion influences of modern day Spitalfields, says Bostock and Pollitt senior designer Pat Glover. The work also features photography by John Spinks.
