BBC builds London screen graphics team

Client advisory group Global Design Register has added a UK marketing co-ordinator Jean Gaskill to its four-strong team.

BBC Resources is building its London design team as it steps up its bid to take on more commercial consultancy work in the run up to achieving limited company status.

Manager of BBC graphic design Jeff Conrad has seen presentations from almost 150 young designers over the past two weeks, with a view to taking on ten or more staff and identifying other people to work with his team on specific projects. The presentations followed a brief he set, having invited applications through press ads.

Conrad heads a team of 50, including 45 designers largely concerned with screen graphics; his colleague Ewan Maclean heads a complementary team handling interactive design. BBC Resources also has design capabilities in Bristol, Birmingham and Manchester.

For the past four years BBC Resources has taken on work within the BBC and for external clients in the UK and abroad. The impending change to limited company status as a wholly-owned subsidiary of the BBC is scheduled for July.
