Design needs to inch out those stray characters

In reference to Mark Elgar’s letter, regarding the Queen’s Golden Jubilee logo (DW 12 July), I don’t wish to comment on the creative merits of the piece of communication as I am not privy to the full criteria given to the designer.

However, if I am not mistaken the possessive apostrophe of Queen’s seems to be the character that is usually used to abbreviate inch in measurements, the perennial bad penny of typography throughout the world.
