Love founder forms graphics consultancy

Love founder David Simpson has formed a new design consultancy called Music.

Simpson, who left his position as creative director of Love in March last year, is founding the group with former Love production manager Matthew Beardsell and designer Anthony Smith.

The Manchester-based consultancy, which started operating in December, will focus on graphic design.

‘One of Love’s founding principles is to work in both advertising and design,’ says Simpson. ‘But advertising never lit me up, so I want to return to my true passion, design.’

The consultancy is branding a new business club at Manchester City Football Club, as well as designing its seasonal campaigns and promotions.

Music is also working on the branding and all marketing materials for Manchester International Festival 2009.

Both are former clients of Love, but Simpson claims that Music and Love are on amicable terms about the transfers.

Simpson originally considered opening a graphics department within Love, but says he was concerned that ‘nothing would really change if I stayed there’.

Currently in temporary accommodation because of a fire at its new office, the group should be installed in a permanent home on Silk Street next week, Simpson says.
