Spiegel & Grau, a New York-based Random House publishing label, is set to launch its fresh visual identity in the UK, with design by The Partners.

Cindy Spiegel and Julie Grau set up the venture at the end of 2005, and started a new subsidiary within Random House last year.

The Partners was appointed without a pitch in December 2006 to create a fresh identity, which has appeared in New York, and is to be unveiled with the first Spiegel & Grau book to be launched in the UK market in the coming months.

As part of the brief, the consultancy was tasked with creating an identity for the label that would fully reflect the personalities of the two women at the helm, as well as reflecting their passion for books and dedication to innovative literature.

In response, The Partners has created an identity that is tailored for positioning on the spine of a book.

According to creative director of The Partners Greg Quinton, ‘The chosen identity was decided upon because it was an elegant solution to their requirements, which makes a virtue of their names and partnership in a way that is unique to publishing.’
