Landor Associates in San Francisco has been appointed to carry out design work for the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City.

The consultancy is working in partnership with local public relations and advertising agency EvansGroup. The partnership, called Landor/Evans+, beat FJC&N and Harris & Love to win the work.

“Our partnership provides the ability to consider the thoughts and themes of Utahns with the means to validate those ideas in our global network,” says Kay Stout, Landor’s managing director and the consultancy’s officer in charge of the project.

Design work has yet to begin, but Stout claims the driving force of “our Olympic branding philosophy is not based on a design assignment, but the responsibility that the impressions left behind in the minds of all who experience the Games will be positively remembered as a unique reflection of our community, our spirit, our home, our people and the Salt Lake 2002 Winter Olympiad.”

The Landor/Evans+ partnership worked on the bid document for Salt Lake City.
