Radio 1 talks body politics

BBC Radio 1 this week launches a body awareness campaign for young people. The campaign is backed up by a booklet called Skin Deep, designed by Zero 2 Design.

Supported by the Health Education Authority, Radio 1’s campaign seeks to allay common fears about bodies. The booklet, written by 19 magazine’s agony uncle Mathew Whyman, tackles issues ranging from freckles to eating disorders.

Zero 2 Design’s managing director Paul Price says the seriousness of the issues balanced with the need to appeal to the target audience defines the design, with rave-style typography combined with photography such as raw meat on a skewer to illustrate body-piercing.
