Design Council report is confidence boost for design

Speaking on behalf of the Design Business Association, I feel the Design Council’s latest study gives the UK design industry a long overdue and massive boost of confidence (DW 4 March).

The study demonstrates for probably the first time the direct relationship between the effective use of design and corporate financial performance – something that many of us have known, intuitively, for many a year. However, this simple relationship has never been so clearly and compellingly set out in such a simple and direct way.

The report puts design right at the heart of business and it can be used as a basis for a compelling and persuasive argument that will continue to move perceptions of our industry away from the crude ‘cottage community’ image that still prevails.

The report gives DBA members a powerful bargaining tool to use in their relationships with clients and it also provides clients with unequivocal evidence that effective design really can help in keeping their business ahead of the competition.

I applaud the Design Council for this initiative, will gladly be making the most of it and exhort all of your readers to do the same. Visit www.designcouncil.org.uk to read more about the report.
