The future of boat design

A competition charting the future of boat design will seek Government approval today, when manufacturing minister Alan Johnson surveys the 20-strong shortlist of entries. Concept Boat 2002 floats ideas for prototypes of small, transportable craft that could help address problems such as increasing flood waters and congestion on the roads. Designs range from Keith Matthews’ pump-free inflatable to Chris Johnson’s Land Rover-inspired vessel. The competition will be on view at the Southampton Boat Show until 22 September.
