US tie-up for UK design school

A tie-up between Southampton Institute’s School of Design and the Carnegie Mellon University School of Design in Pittsburgh was due to be finalised as Design Week went to press.

Exchange programmes will be operated for staff and students, while joint design projects will be developed by Internet links.

“This is a prestigious relationship for us and it is something students, staff and the institute will greatly benefit from,” says Professor Hadyn Griffiths, dean of the institute’s design faculty.

Memorandums of agreement were due to be signed this week, formalising the union. It has operated unofficially for some time.
