The BBC’s new flagship documentary series Modern Times has hit the airwaves with a title sequence by Tim Platt and Iain Greenway of the BBC Graphic Design Department. Series editor Stephen Lambert asked for visually and mentally stimulating titles. Greenway and Platt devised the idea of the modern world meeting the old world, using an image of an electric charge running through the filament of a candle-shaped light bulb. Models were made by Steve Wiltshire.
