Bubbling up

Salviati meets London is back this month, with new designs by a quartet of leading British talent. Hannah Booth takes a closer look

Jane Dillon, with Tom Grieves, has appropriated an age-old Venetian glass technique that involves twisting coloured glass canes to create a vast piece with large bubbles within; and Levete has designed a bean-shaped solid piece reminiscent of Future Systems’ often curved buildings.

The four had sessions early on at the Royal College of Art, explaining glass design techniques, and this was where the initial development and prototyping of the pieces took place earlier this year. ‘I wanted to work with big name designers who could really exploit the potential of the material,’ Moore adds.

Salviati Meets London runs from 25 September to 30 October at Vessel, 114 Kensington Park Road, London W11
