Designers are being sought for a major new ú6m Welsh art gallery at Powis Castle Park in Welshpool, Mid Wales.

“We’re not looking for a design concept at this stage. We want to find a good team of architects, interior designers and artists first,” says a spokesman for the Mid Wales Centre for the Arts Trust, the creator of the venue.

The 2000m2 building will feature temporary exhibitions, state-of-the-art galleries, an education centre and sculpture park.

Initial submissions will be unpaid. The six teams selected to pitch creatively will each get ú1000.

Submissions have already been received from Rick Mather Architects and Ian Ritchie Architects. Interested consultancies must apply by 19 May. The gallery’s opening is planned for 1988.
