Roundel creates new logo for London Philharmonic

Roundel has designed the new logo for Debut Sounds, a London Philharmonic Orchestra programme aimed at young musicians embarking on an orchestral career.

The consultancy was appointed directly to the work, having previously worked with LPO, and is currently working on a new season brochure for the client.

Design and production of the LPO 2007/08 75th birthday season brochures won the consultancy the contracts, Roundel says.

Roundel design director Ross Shaw says the Debut Sounds identity has been created based on crochets resting on a musical score.

’We took the typeface from the LPO corporate brand, stretched the letters to give the feel of musical notes and squared two of them off so they bracket the main brand,’ he says.

Debut Sounds provides the chance for those on LPO’s Young Composers Scheme to work under the guidance of the LPO composer-in-residence.

The new identity will roll out across print and digital communications, which Shaw says are yet to be finalised.
