Barcelona’s UEFA cup final will get The Works

LEEDS consultancy The Works is working on a massive design project to brand the Union of European Football Association Champions League Cup Final to be held in Spain.

The showcase event on 26 May, staged at the Noucamp stadium in Barcelona, will be the culmination of a week-long celebration of football. Branding will adorn many different areas of the city – the 1999 recipient of the Royal Gold Medal from the Royal Institute of British Architects.

The aim of the extensive production is to create a European city of football for a week, taking over Barcelona, and reflecting the locality in the design of the event.

The city and the Mediterranean will be absorbed in the branding, which will aim to create a statement about the city itself and embrace the culture of it, but still keep football as the main theme, say sources.

The scope of the project includes everything from identity and print design to production of the press kits. It also encompasses gala dinner menus and invitations and the interior and exterior design and production of the stadium’s display. The streets in the immediate vicinity of the Noucamp are also under The Works’ jurisdiction for the duration of the event.

No one from The Works or UEFA was available to comment.
