Activity in DIY sector provides glut of work

The design industry is benefiting from intense competition in the DIY sector, as rival companies seek to stretch and strengthen their brands.

As Design Week went to press, DIY market leader B&Q was approving the release of its new logo, by M&K.

This forms part of a complete overhaul of the client’s own-brand design (DW 17 April). Rival Wickes launched a new concept at six stores – designed in-house – earlier in the month, and a new range of own-brand gardening products last month.

Meanwhile, 20/20 and Crabtree Hall/Plan Créatif are working on a new identity and interiors for Sainsbury’s Homebase.
