The Guardian newspaper has appointed Simon Esterson to the new role of art director for a six-month period.

“Part of the brief is to look at any changes the new editor [Alan Rusbridger] wants to make,” says Esterson. He will also review the way internal resources and colour are used on the broadsheet and G2 supplement. Esterson intends to spend “every day but not necessarily all day” at the Guardian, and he will remain a director of Esterson Lackersteen.

The Guardian is launching a UK version of the cult US monthly magazine Wired. The 24 March launch will be the first for the Guardian Media Group.
