Mannering moves up at MoDA

The recently relocated Museum of Domestic Design and Architecture at London’s Middlesex University has promoted its director of marketing and licensing Ken Mannering to MoDA director. He replaces Judy Billing, who has left the museum to project manage the local government organisation IDEA and was director for three years.

Mannering takes charge of overall management and development of the museum, which as well as maximising revenue from its commercial activities will include widening access to the collection.

“MoDA is at a very exciting stage in its development,” says Mannering.

“Having just opened in a brand new building we are well positioned to make MoDA the place to come to enjoy, learn about and be inspired about design for the home,” he adds.

Mannering, head of licensing at the Victoria & Albert Museum from 1994 to 1997, has until now been responsible for developing the MoDA brand and building the museum’s design licensing programme, which has seen MoDA designs now being reproduced in the UK, US, Japan and South East Asia.

Middlesex University vice-chancellor Professor Michael Driscoll says that with his experience of the museum sector, Mannering will be “invaluable in establishing MoDA as a significant design museum and the design resource for interior design professionals”.

“Through Mannering’s appointment as director of MoDA, I believe we have a strong team in place to achieve this goal,” adds Driscoll.
