RCA merges Arad’s 3D courses

Professor Ron Arad is heading a new two-year MA course at the Royal College of Art called Design Products, following the merger of courses in industrial design and furniture. It will start next month with 33 students.

Several well-established teachers and designers including Jane Dillon, Michael Marriott and Sebastian Bergne will lead individual teaching units. The course also features study trips and workshops run by visiting designers.

Arad says: “The course will by no means attempt to narrow down or isolate a definition, quite the opposite. It will attempt to keep it wide open – aiming to create a design culture engaged equally in ongoing debate on all aspects of design and in design project work, where postgraduate students can navigate themselves en route to a confident definition of their own position.”

No decision has yet been made as to who will fill the graphics professor role at the RCA, says a college spokeswoman.
