Poole Pottery rescued by team of investors

Leading UK ceramics manufacturer Poole Pottery has been bought after nearly six months in administration.

The purchase, by a group of investors led by turnaround specialist Peter Ford, will ensure the 130-year-old pottery continues to operate at its Sopers Lane headquarters in Poole.

Ford, who will act as chairman, says he aims to ‘strengthen the brand through the appointment of contemporary artist Karen Ford as design director and Bernard Burns, formerly of Churchill Tableware, as managing director.

Keith Goodman, senior partner of administrator Leonard Curtis & Co, says he is ‘delighted’ to have found a buyer who will ‘respect the traditions of the pottery and take the business forward’.

The purchase does not include Dolphin Quays, which runs the store on Poole Quay that includes Poole Pottery’s factory shop. It will remain in administration under Leonard Curtis & Co.

Poole Pottery went into administration in June after the collapse of its parent company Orb Estates.
