Merchant is set up by Catherine Samy because Brunswick wanted to offer a range of services from one house.

It has 20 staff. It project manages all its jobs, farming out the design work to outside design groups. Merchant has a separate board, but with commonality of ownership.

The Work

Mostly literature and Internet – won’t be specific.

More identity work in the past year than ever before.

60 per cent of shared clients.

1999 design fee-income was £600 000.
