In-house branding for ITN news

The ITN in-house design team is to create new branding for ITV news programmes, following the approval of plans to move News At Ten to an earlier slot.

Simon Jago Associates will design studio sets for the new 6.30pm show, which will be supplemented by an 11pm bulletin, says Nigel Dacre, editor of ITN news programmes on ITV. A facilities house is to be appointed to create a three-dimensional model for the title sequences.

Dacre will head the overall creative team, with ITN senior graphic designer Glenn Marshall co-ordinating design efforts. The ITV network is keeping the launch date of its new schedule top secret for as long as possible in a bid to gain a competitive advantage over its rivals.

The new prime-time news programme will look “authoritative, but not over-imposing”, says Dacre. “We want to transfer some of the familiar elements of News At Ten, but introduce new elements as well,” he adds.
