Stick to our mission

I agree with Janice Kirkpatrick (Private View, DW 23 October) – about designers needing to follow scientists in speaking our own language confidently.

Although I believe we’ve got it right there’s still the problem of reception. The business community is secure in structured scientific communication and it is hardly going to jump ship overnight to the airy fairy jargon of foppish designers.

We’ve got to stick to our mission of driving design upwards to a strategic level that’s recognised alongside other professional services such as law, finance and even architecture. Once there, we can call things anything we want.
