Airport lounge ready for take off

Designs for a VIP lounge for Palma de Majorca Airport, by Etherington Mas Associates, have been given the go ahead and the lounge is now scheduled to open in late summer.

The design consultancy was appointed by AENA, the Spanish airports authority, in November 2000 and the project, which was won without a pitch, is expected to be completed by late August or early September.

The airport is Europe’s tenth largest in terms of customer traffic and the lounge, which will occupy 750m2, will provide two duty free sales areas, events space, a business centre, banking facilities, a library, rest area and a bar/ eating area.

Etherington Mas Associates creative director Tim Etherington says the consultancy’s contribution is wide reaching.

“Etherington Mas is doing everything from concepts through to fulfilment and implementation. Concepts have now been submitted and accepted and we are now doing the construction drawings,” he says.
