Scots lead the field in on-line banking race

The UK’s first fully fledged on-line banking service over the Internet has been designed for the Royal Bank of Scotland by NXYS in Edinburgh. The logo and musical signature are by Concept Associates.

The launch of Direct Banking By PC in the spring is expected to be followed by a rush of similar schemes from other high street banks.

The site for the Royal Bank of Scotland had to be attractive, easy to learn and easy to use, explains the retail bank’s head of electronic communications Bill Bougourd.

“We used simple but straightforward design methodology for the user interface,” says James Lougheed, managing director at NXYS, which also created the graphic icons.

Royal Bank of Scotland already uses a lozenge icon for its direct banking service. Concept Associates was briefed to tweak the lozenge, making it more dynamic with a 3D version for the web, says group creative director Bill Greaves.

A demo website is up and running at www.rbos .co. uk.
