Tate Gallery website to relaunch

The Tate Gallery is relaunching the collective website for its various sites, to coincide with the renaming of the original London gallery at Millbank, by Wolff Olins.

The site, www.tate.org.uk, has been designed by Nykris Digital Design and features the newly named Tate Britain gallery, along with the Tate Modern, Tate Liverpool and Tate St Ives galleries.

The revamped site will give access to a searchable database of artworks held in the various Tate collections, including graphics and background information.

Nykris creative director Nikki Barton says that the challenge was not in making the art ‘work’ online but making the site a useful resource.

‘Revealing the Tate’s collection of art for Web users was our real source of inspiration,’ she says.
