Dyson sweeps top DBA award

James Dyson’s DC02 cylinder vacuum cleaner has won top prize, the Eversheds Grand Prix, in the Design Business Association’s Design Effectiveness Awards. The cleaner also won the consumer product category.

A special environmental trophy was awarded to Pillar Information Design for its redesign of the preface to BT’s national phone books, which also won the Information Design category.

Meanwhile, Blackburn’s design for Harveys Gran Solera sherry and Miller Sutherland’s work on the Conran Shop’s bath range both secured gold awards at the fifth annual International Brand Packaging Awards in New York.

And the 1997 Sir Misha Black Medal, for distinguished services to design education, is to be awarded to Dr Alex Moulton, author of the influential 1976 Design Council report, Engineering Design Education, and designer of the Moulton folding bicycle.
