Members club invites Fox Linton to the ball

Fox Linton Associates has been appointed this week to design the interior of London-based Hurlingham Club’s planned £16m extension.

The design consultancy won a three-way tender process, which also included Annie Waite and Joanna Trading.

It was appointed on the strength of its track record and history of working with architects, according to Fox Linton Associates director Mary Fox Linton.

The project, which will include a theatre, ballroom, and dining room for up to 800 guests, will start in July 2002.

The interior plans will be completed by the end of this year. Project architect Michael Squire and Partners has not yet decided what the budget for the interiors will be, nor has it appointed a consultancy to do the lighting.

Fox Linton says, ‘The design has to be timeless, but you have also got to think about the younger members who are coming up.

‘[The architect] was very specific about the fact that each area needs to be used for several things; for example, the theatre could also be used for children’s parties. So it has to be extremely flexible.’
