Glasgow is throwing open the previously limited competition to design a typeface for the city’s year as City of Architecture & Design in 1999.

A logotype will be developed from the typeface to replace the existing Graven Images-designed logo. Non-Glaswegian designers can now compete. The judging panel, which includes Blue Peach director Joe Hall, will create a shortlist by the end of January.

Those shortlisted will receive 500 to develop their proposals. The winner, to be announced in February, will be paid to finalise the design and will also receive a percentage of royalties.
