Mike Dempsey, partner at CDT Design, has been elected to British Design and Art Direction’s executive committee.

Dempsey, who is joined by Tim Mellors and Tom Carty from advertising agencies GGT and Abbot Mead Vickers respectively, takes up his place at D&AD’s rescheduled annual general meeting in January 1996.

“I have a wider view and see both design and advertising as a continuum,” says Dempsey. “While my interests are with the design community, they are equally lodged with advertising because I see an enormous crossover and complementary activity in the two disciplines, which needs to be recognised,” he adds.

D&AD president Mary Lewis, due to step down in January, says she is impressed by the “response from the design community, which put forward a talented and competitive side”.

The response to this year’s election has been high, with 54 per cent of members voting for 16 nominees.
