Designers in Residence is open to designers who have graduated within the past five years. Those selected will be given support to develop projects and the programme will culminate in an exhibition at the Design Museum.

The Designers in Residence scheme is in its eighth year, and previous alumni include Asif Khan, Bethan Laura Wood and Giles Miller.

For 2015, the designers will be tasked to respond to the theme of “migration”. Design Museum director Deyan Sudjic says: “The Design Museum’s move to the former Commonwealth Institute in Holland Park finally takes place in 2016.

“It seems like a good backdrop against which to explore the theme of migration… [we invite designers] to respond to this theme. It can be a reflection of objects or processes that imply movement, or transition, of shifting and cross-fertilising cultures, or of mobility.”

The 2014 Designers in Residence developed concepts based around the idea of “disruption”.
