British Museum website revamp

A new-look website for the British Museum has gone live, designed by Cogapp.

The Sussex-based digital design consultancy secured the contract to redesign the site in 2006, following a six-way unpaid creative pitch.

The British Museum briefed Cogapp to create a website that would broaden the appeal to a global audience.

‘One of the museum’s taglines is “Travel the world. Visit the British Museum”, and this was at the centre of its brief to us,’ says Cogapp design director Colin Jenkinson.

‘We responded to this by bringing the museum’s artefacts to the forefront of the website, concentrating on photography and pulling together the key collections.’

Cogapp also added a complex search tool that allows users to find information and objects via four themes: money, writing, animals and time, as well as by gallery.
