Design Indaba kicks off in South Africa

South Africa’s annual design trade fair and conference, Design Indaba, runs this week in Cape Town.



The weekend saw the start of the fifth Design Indaba Expo, showcasing a selection of 186 South African design groups and other organisations.



A panel of design specialists, including graphic designer Richard Hart and product designer Bernard Smith, has curated the selection of work this year.



A three-day conference led by speakers including the designer of the world’s first laptop, Bill Moggridge, and South African designer Oona Scheepers begins today.



The conference will also feature talks led by British design group Airside, humanoid robot designer Shunji Yamanaka, and creator of the NBC and Mobil logos Ivan Chermayeff.



Lighting designer Jason Bruges and interior designer Ilse Crawford will fly the flag for UK design, speaking at the architecture and lifestyle seminars.
